Approximately 99 percent of the causes of cervical cancer caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus) which can be prevented with the HPV vaccine. But that does not mean the HPV vaccine means one 100 percent free of cervical cancer, early detection is still needed with pap smear.
"The HPV vaccine only protects women from some types of HPV, which are many causes about 80 percent of cervical cancer were HPV 16 and HPV 18. In fact there are hundreds of its type, but other types are rarely diidap patients," explained the doctor Budi Santoso, on Saturday (25/04/2015).
"There is a possibility of 20-30 percent are exposed to oncogenic HPV can become cancerous beyond types 16 and 18. That's why it takes a pap smear every year," said a doctor.
According to Dr Stone, with a pap smear all types of HPV can be detected. If detected early, it will be easier to overcome even be completely cured if they pre cervical cancer.
Thus, for women who are married or have sex, the doctor Budi reminded to care for himself through early detection with Pap smears annually.
