US researchers say that something as simple as eating more vegetables such as spinach may help protect the brain against the onset of Alzheimer's.

Researchers from Rush University in Chicago questioned 950 men and women about their diet. The volunteers, average age 81 years and then perform a series of mental tests every year for ten years. The researchers found that the slowing cognitive decline equivalent to 11 years

It is estimated that vitamin K, folate or vitamin B9 and natural dyes lutein and beta-carotene are the reasons behind this cognitive decline.

"Loss of memory or cognitive ability is one of the biggest fears for people as they get older. With this, the increasing consumption of green leafy vegetables can be an effective way, affordable and non-invasive potential to protect your brain," said researcher Dr. Martha Morris, as reported by Daily Mail, Friday (3/4).

"Our study provides evidence that eating green leafy vegetables such as spinach and other foods rich in vitamin K, lutein and beta-carotene may help keep the brain healthy," said Morris.

Meanwhile, those who do not like spinach can also get vitamin K, lutein and beta-carotene than carrots, tomatoes and peppers.
